I am hugely excited by the news that Labour Councillors on High Peak Borough Council have secured the purchase of The Springs shopping centre.
We have witnessed the slow death of high streets across the country over the last decade. Which is why it is so exciting to see our Labour councillors having the vision and the courage to take on this challenge.
The purchase of the Springs will kick-start the redevelopment of the town centre and start to unlock the town’s enormous potential.
Labour understands that local communities – not Westminster – are best placed to deliver the real change their areas need.
The next Labour government will give local leaders the tools to develop long term growth plans and devolve new powers over employment support, transport, climate change, housing and childcare.
These powers will empower people in the towns across High Peak to deliver real change for their local economies.

On this Boxing Day I'd like to mention the work carried out by the Little Cherubs Community group in Chapel-en-le-Frith.
They have provided support for families over the festive period including presents for children who would otherwise go without at Christmas. A sterling effort from all involved. Amazing work.👏🏼💫
