Today we remember the 6 million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other people killed under Nazi persecution and during more recent genocides.
Earlier I marked the day by attending a ceremonial flag raising in Glossop and tonight by lighting a candle as others are across High Peak, the UK and the world.
Ordinary people were involved in every aspect of the holocaust – perpetrators, bystanders, rescuers, witnesses – and the victims.
Ordinary people can stop it happening again by playing our part in challenging prejudice today.

It was inspiring to visit the amazing Reuben's Retreat in Glossop. It's such an important facility and does great work supporting families who have suffered the loss of a child or have a child living with medical complexities.
I was given a tour by the lovely Shannon and I know that the charity's founder and Reuben's mummy, Nicola, has big plans for further refurbishment of the site to create accommodation for families that use the Retreat. Please support them if you can.
To learn more about the fantastic impact they make or to donate to their work please visit them at: www.reubensretreat.org/about-us/
