I am hugely proud to have been elected as the Labour MP for High Peak in the 2024 general election.

I was born and bred in Derbyshire and I live here with my family in the Hope Valley.

I was the first person in my family to go to university.

I earnt my way from an early age and funded myself through my studies. I have worked stacking shelves in a supermarket, as a crew member for McDonalds, as a waiter in a pub, in sales selling computers, as a shop assistant in an off-licence, boxing chocolates in Thornton’s factory in Belper and as a car park attendant.

I have worked for a charity helping vulnerable people live in warmer homes, as well as helping to implement the then Labour government’s strategy to lift people out of fuel poverty.

Before becoming an MP in July 2024, I was an employment lawyer and a specialist in equality and discrimination law.

Public service is in my DNA. My Mum was a nurse like her parents before her. My wife, brother, sister, nephew, and niece all work for the NHS today. So I heard first hand the difficulties the NHS was facing under the Conservative Government.

I am a dad to two amazing girls and two harum-scarum puppies. My wife and I certainly have our hands full, but we wouldn’t change it for the world!

I have been a Derby County supporter (please don’t hold it against me) since my Dad took me to my first game at the old Baseball Ground as a kid. I have followed them home and away over the years. I am a long-standing member of the Rams Trust, which is a football supporters’ cooperative that aims to increase fan engagement and to secure the long-term sustainability of the club.
